Best Sleep Mask UK: Block the Light and Drift Off
Light is one of the biggest things that stops us drifting off. A good sleep mask blocks it out completely, which is especially useful if you’re a shift worker, you travel a lot, or a streetlight shines through your curtains.
The right mask is soft, comfortable and actually stays put. Here’s what to look for and a few good picks.
How we chose these
We haven’t slept in every mask on the market. These picks are based on specifications, UK retailer information and owner reviews, plus what the big reviewers keep recommending. We’ll explain what each is like.
What to look for in a sleep mask
- Light blocking: this is the whole point — look for one that actually blocks light around the nose and edges, not just over the eyes.
- Material: silk is soft, cool and gentle on skin; cotton is breathable and washable. Choose what feels good.
- Fit and comfort: it should be snug enough to stay put but not press on your eyes.
- Adjustable strap: a strap you can adjust (or that has elastic) helps it fit different head sizes.
- Room for lashes: if you wear mascara or have long lashes, a contoured or “cupped” mask gives your eyes room.
Our picks
Alaska Bear Silk Sleep Mask
A hugely popular silk mask that’s soft, cool and blocks light well. The silk is
gentle on skin, and the thin, adjustable straps help it stay put. Fantastic
value for the price.
Manta Sleep Mask
The contoured, fully-blocking option. It has deep, adjustable eye cups that give
your eyes room to move (great for lashes) and block light from every angle.
More expensive, but genuinely excellent.
Drowsy Silk Sleep Mask
The luxury pick. A thick, plush silk mask that’s extra soft and comfortable,
often recommended for a really indulgent sleep. Pricey, but if you want the
best feel, this is the one.
Which one should you pick?
- Best value: Alaska Bear Silk.
- Best for lashes and full blocking: Manta.
- Best luxury feel: Drowsy.
